Picture Book Critique Services

So, you've written a picture book manuscript... or three... or 50! What started as a spark of inspiration and passion project has transformed from an idea into an honest-to-goodness story. Congratulations, and welcome to the wonderfully addictive world of picture book writing!
And you may be wondering...I love my story, but is it really good? Maybe you've read lots of picture books and know what is out in the market? Maybe you work with kids, or have kids, and they like the snippets you've read them? Maybe you even have a group of critique partners, or kindred spirits who share your love of picture books, and they share your love the story?!
Or maybe you're just not sure what to do next? Well, I've gone down the traditionally-published route, and experienced the long path of highs (a few) and lows (a lot). I've studied the craft for 15 years now, and went through 222 rejections before securing my first agent.
I was then ecstatic when getting my first, then second, then third, books published. And I was amazed to find my titles on lists, like Kirkus' Best Books of the 21st Century, and blown away to see them in my local library and bookstores--the same places where I'd sit on the floor with my little girl, hoping that one day my books would also grace those shelves.

For $349, I'll read your rhyming fiction (up to 750 words) or non-fiction (up to 1000 words) picture book manuscript and provide the above detailed feedback, plus a complete review of the rhyming elements, including a line-item critique of the most important facet of a rhyming story, the meter. I love writing in rhyme, and three of my first four published books are rhymers.

For $49, I'll read your fiction or non-fiction picture book pitch and provide a detailed critique. Writing pitches is one of my favorite parts of being a picture book author, and one of my critique partners pays me in bottles of fine bourbon. :)

- A line-edit of your story, with feedback on potential alternative words, phrasing, etc.
- Suggestions on any potential changes to the story arc

- A 60-minute Zoom chat to discuss the feedback and potential next steps
