Reading Giraffe Camps

Children naturally like to read. But they LOVE to read when books come to life! Reading Giraffe runs week-long, half-day camps to keep kids reading through those long summer months. By making books interactive, fun and ACTIVE adventures, our goal is to produce lifelong readers who keep searching for the next story!

• Our camp utilizes “The Whole Book Approach” from The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art to create a COLLABORATIVE, SHARED reading experience that makes picture books tools of learning.
• We’ll cover some 50 books during the week, with a series of exciting themes that include:  Maybe Hairy, Not So Scary (Kid-Friendly Monsters, Sharks and other creatures), Dinosaurs, Amazing Animals, Creative Counting & ABCs, Meeting Meta (books that break the fourth wall), Nutty Nature, and Friends & Family.
• Cross Spell uses letter mats to introduce our daily themes.
• Tower Time (Did you know a group of giraffes is a tower?) is the cornerstone of our camp. Read-alouds become a study of art, plot, and vocabulary, while facilitated discussions spur analytical thinking.
• Giraffe-tivities let campers stretch their creativity with fun, educational activities.
• Fit Lit lets campers stretch their muscles with high-energy games that are tied to the books’ characters and storylines, and Walk-Abouts get them moving & reading.
• Build-A-Book allows campers to don their authors’ hats and create their own wild tales.
