Reading Giraffe Classes

Reading Giraffe runs weekly classes in schools around the area. By making books interactive, fun and ACTIVE adventures, our goal is to produce lifelong readers who keep searching for that next exciting story!

• Our curriculum utilizes “The Whole Book Approach” from The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art to create a COLLABORATIVE, SHARED reading experience that makes picture books tools of learning.
• Each lesson plan is comprised of at least 3 books and centers on a single theme. Our themes are based on a variety of topic areas, including Nutty Nature, Friends & Family, Imagination Station, Amazing Animals, and Maybe Hairy, Not So Scary. 
• Cross Spell uses letter mats to introduce each week's theme.
• Tower Time (Did you know a group of giraffes is a tower?) is the cornerstone of our program.  Read-alouds become a study of art, plot, and vocabulary, while facilitated discussions spur analytical thinking.
• Giraffe-tivities let students stretch their creativity with fun, educational activities.
• Fit Lit lets students stretch their muscles with high-energy games that are tied to the books’ storylines, and Walk-Abouts have classes moving & reading.
  
• Build-A-Book allows students to don their authors’ hats and create their own wild tales.​

We continually update our curriculum, adding exciting new titles to supplement the classics. Books are chosen based on multiple criteria, including their readability, plot, characters, underlying theme, interactivity, and, most importantly, their ability to connect with children.
